Hare Krishna!

Srila Prabhupada the founder acarya of this International society for Krishna consciousness once said “Religion without philosophy is just sentimentalism, and philosophy without religion is mental speculation”. So in ISKCON we can find both religion and philosophy. What we believe?

What we believe?

Before understanding the spiritual things it is necessary for the reader to come to the basic understanding that he is different from this body, why? Because by this we can come to the spiritual platform which helps us to understand spiritual things. Most of the time Srila Prabhupada in his lectures told “when we understand that we are not these bodies but spirit souls and parts and parcels of Krishna that is the beginning of spiritual life”.

How can we understand that we are souls?

For this we have to understand the difference between dead body and living body. Dead body means no activity, if we keep nice sweets near to a dead body it will not jump and eat those dishes like a living body. It cannot smell nice fragrances, watch beautiful sceneries, hear nice music, but if we examine we will find that all the senses are present in dead body also. Because of the absence of the soul it cannot do so. In living body soul is present and its symptom is consciousness. This is not only the philosophy of Bhagavad-gita but the conclusion of all Vedic literature.

What is the nature of soul?

The soul is the part and parcel of Krishna as it is confirmed in Bhagwad Gita by Krishna and it has all the qualities which are present in Krishna. Like a drop of ocean hasthe same qualities like of ocean. So the nature of soul is to serve the Lord and thus stay in blissful state. That nature of soul we cannot change, we can see it everywhere. Everyone is rendering service to someone either to family, country, or society. If we have no one to serve we keep a pet cat and dog and service to it. Yet in spite of serving to the best of our ability, we are not satisfied. Nor is the person to whom we are rendering that serviceever gets satisfied. The reason for this is that the service being rendered is not properly directed.

Proper Direction of Service

As we saw in this material world everyone is frustrated after rendering service to best of our ability, means service is not properly directed. So we have to understand the right way to render service, so that all feel satisfied and blissful. For example, if we want to render service to a tree, we must water the root. If we pour water on the leaves, branches, and twigs, there is little benefit. Like this if Supreme Personality of Godhead is served, all other parts and parcels will be automatically satisfied. To serve lord first of all we have to understand our constitutional position with God and to serve accordingly. If this is possible then our lives become successful. For this we need proper knowledge of Lord’s qualities, His activities and also our relation with him. For that we have many scriptures like SrimadBhagwadgita and Srimad Bhagwadam. That process is called Yoga. Yoga doesn’t only mean physical exercises but yoga means to establish relationship with the Lord .For different yugas there are different method to establish our relationship with the Lord. In Satya Yuga that method is to perform some austerities, in dwaparYuga method is to do deity worship, and in treta is to perform sacrifices. But for the age of Kali Yuga, Where people have short life span, little time and intelligence the recommended method is to chant the holy names of Lord which is the topmost service which we can render to Lord.

" Hare Krishna Hare Krishna
Krishna Krishna Hare Hare
Hare Rama Hare Rama
Rama Rama Hare Hare "

The maha-mantra is composed of three Sanskrit names of the Supreme Being: Hare, Krishna and Rama. Hare addresses the energy of the Lord as the supreme pleasure potency, Radha, who helps us in reaching Krishna. Both Krishna (the All- Attractive) and Rama (the source of all pleasure) directly address the Lord. This chanting comes directly from the spiritual platform, surpassing all lower states of consciousness- sensual, mental, and intellectual. People from all walks of life can experience spiritual and personal fulfillment just by chanting the names of God. This chanting can be done either as an individual practice (japa) – chanting quietly on beads as a personal meditation, or singing more loudly in a group, which is called kirtana.
