“Sukadeva Goswami said: O King, religion, truthfulness, cleanliness, tolerance, mercy, duration of life, physical strength and memory will all diminish day by day because of the powerful influence of the age of Kali.” Srimad Bhagvatam 12.2.1
There are different methods to make our life perfect in different ages. In Satya Yuga the method to make our life perfect was by performing austerities, in Treta Yuga the method was to perform sacrifices, and in Dwapar Yuga was to worship deities. But from this verse of Srimad Bhagwadam we can conclude that all the people in the age of Kali are fallen. As their life span is short, they are not physically strong so they are not able to perform various austerities and sacrifices to make their life perfect. But in Kaliyuga, the method to make our life perfect is to perform congregational chanting of the holy names of Lord.
In Bhagwad Gita Krishna says “Whenever I appear, My mission is to deliver the pious devotees and to annihilate the demons”. When Krishna appeared he had to kill many demons with his disc. But in this age when he appeared as Lord Caitanya he had a different weapon, that weapon was congregational chanting of the holy name of Lord. He would go with His followers into the streets and chant the names of Krishna so that peoples’ suffering could be ended, and they could take to the real activity, the spiritual activity, of worshiping and serving the Supreme Lord.
From last 10 years with this aim, Devotees of ISKCON Noida organises Harinam Sankirtan on every Saturday. They go to different areas of Noida with the instruments like mridangam, hand cymbals and drums. Our Sankirtan party has his own Harinam Rath which is nicely decorated with Lord’s pictures. They also distribute prasadam to everyone. Devotees dance together throughout the Harinam which attracts everyone. It is very pleasing to the soul .Many people also invites us to perform this Harinam sankirtan in their areas.
